Volunteers week - spotlight on Mick and Carol Clements

June 08, 2016

Mick and Carol Clements (on the left of this photo, taken at our recent re-brand launch event) are long-standing volunteers at our West Berkshire (Newbury) Centre.

Mick has been a volunteer for over 11 years; as a driver for some of our families, and doing lots of general tasks within the Centre – helping with Children’s snack time, entertaining the children and lots of (very essential!) DIY and housekeeping jobs.  Carol was formerly the Centre Manager but, since retirement, has continued to volunteer at the Centre.  Her wealth of knowledge and support for Louise, the Centre Manager, and the whole team is a tremendous asset.

In the words of Louise “All the children enjoy spending time with Mick and Carol and we can see that they also thrive on spending time with the children.  We love having them here at the Centre – and they come with us and the families on trips out; helping parents and sharing their experiences with them.  We are so appreciative of the time that they spend volunteering with us and feel that they are a key part of our team.”

Mick and Carol say that they would recommend volunteering, to anyone who feels that they have some time that they could give to a cause that they value.  “Dingley has given us both the opportunity to help support the children’s development; to see them happy, growing in confidence, and being part of their learning through play experience.  It has been very rewarding to be part of the children’s time at Dingley.” said Mick.

Carol added: “At Dingley you all make us feel valued members of the team in whatever part we play, from sitting with a child in play; to helping raise much needed funds for an organisation that has enabled us both to give our time and support – and that has given us enjoyment in our retirement.”

Earlier this year, to recognise their service to Dingley, the charity nominated them to receive an Award under the Room to Reward initiative – which gives nominated volunteers a much-needed break away to a hotel and resort of their choice.

“We have just returned from our few days away in Sidmouth, Devon – thanks to our nomination to Rooms to Reward from Dingley.  We couldn’t have asked for better weather.  The hotel was lovely & the views across the bay were fantastic.  Thank you once again Dingley for nominating us.
